Karrie Howard's Platform

Karrie is running to serve the people as a Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge because he believes we can reduce crime, strengthen our communities and put a dent in the school to prison pipeline.  Many have inquired about his platform and where he stands on certain issues as a candidate for Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge.  Because of constraints imposed on judicial candidates, this can be a difficult question to answer.

Rule 4.1(A)(7) of the Ohio Code of Judicial Conduct provides that a judicial candidate shall not, in connection with cases, controversies, or issues that are likely to come before the court, make pledges promises or commitments that are inconsistent with the impartial performance of the adjudicative duties of judicial office. This restriction on judicial candidates is extremely broad and must be followed.

Therefore, Karrie's platform is simple. He will:

• Work to contribute to the conversation and resolution on bail reform;

• Work to develop programs that serve as an alternative to prison to give those who deserve a chance a real opportunity to change their lives for the better;

• Work to resolve sentencing disparities among racial and economic lines;

• Work to engage the public and educate them about the justice system to reduce negative perceptions and restore faith in our justice system;

• Work to treat addiction as the public health crisis it is and considerrehabilitation as analternative to incarceration for addicted non-violentoffenders;

• Work to build upon the advancements made by the Court’s Veteran's Docket; and

• Work to bring the best of what he has learned at all three levels of government to the court; help improve efficiency and effectiveness of the court; and provide greater protection of constitutional rights.
